Ek Balam

Taegan posing with a snake.

After Chichen Itza, we stopped at Ek Balam.  In spite of the heat (and hunger -- eat before you come here,) our kids enjoyed Ek Balam more because you can still climb on most of the ruins.  Mikaela is the person you see on top of the middle building.  The next pictures are from the tall building in the back.

View from the top.  Kelsye and Mikaela stopped half way up because they decided it was too high for them.  (Brittlyn and Taegan got too scared to come down -- it took quite a bit of coaxing.)

It was amazing how well some of the intricate carvings on this temple were preserved.  Definitely worth the trip off the beaten path -- though we got on the regular road instead of the toll road -- with no way of getting off -- going back to Cancun, which meant it took 4 hours to return instead of 2 1/2 hours.
