Congratulations Mikaela!-- Odyssey of the Mind

Mikaela again participated in the Odyssey of the Mind competition this year.  The school she now attends is a powerhouse in this competition -- and from the hours that Mikaela spent working on this, I can see why.  Her team chose to compete in the problem "As Good as Gold . . . berg."  As part of their performance, they had to invent a rube Goldberg-like contraption (click on this if you don't knowwhat a Rube Goldberg machine is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w) that would do the same thing as an everyday device, but in a more complicated manner.  They chose turning on a lightbulb.  Their team took first place, so they will now compete at the state competition in Asheville, NC on April 2nd.  Mikaela's team chose the theme of a school shadow boxt on the planets as their "backdrop" for presenting their performance.  Mikaela is Venus.  It was hard to get good pictures of their performance -- hopefully at the state competition I can have better lighting, so you can see their contraption and scenery.
