"You have such well-behaved children."

Tuesday is usually a crazy day at our house, but we were especially busy yesterday. The kids were out of school because of parent/teacher conferences. We also had a painter at our house repairing the damage from the bee removal process and the basement ceiling mess from our flooding bathroom a few months back. Anyway, I was shuttling back and forth, going to various teacher conferences, voting (thank goodness I only had to wait an hour, and not the 6 hours that Paul had to wait to do his early voting on Saturday) and taking Mikaela and Brittlyn to their piano lesson. When I got home this last time (before gymnastics and soccer,) the painter said to me, "You have such well-behaved kids. It is so nice that you have your older son to help out. I can tell he is responsible and especially looks out for your youngest daughter." A few minutes later, as I was walking up the stairs, I started to smell a kind of peppermint aroma. I went into my room to figure out what it was. There, in my bathroom, was Taegan, standing on a stool in front of my sink, stirring an overflowing, bubbly concoction of every liquid bathroom item she could find . . . shaving cream, kids shampoo, contact solution, shower gel, bubble bath, salon shampoos, hair gel, lotions, toothpaste . . . you name it. Empty bottles, covered in soap were all over the counter, their lids on the floor. My mirror was pasted with this "glop" as well. It's unfortunate that these kind of disasters seem to always happen the day after the room has been cleaned. I went to find this "responsible" son of mine. He was in his room, with his door closed, reading a book.

Your writing makes me laugh! And I can laugh now because I'm the Grandma who lives very far away and I don't have to clean up the mess! However, I did do my share of that in years past! (Does bleaching dinosaur bones in the downstairs bathroom bring back any memories?!)
