We spent a day of our trip driving to see a few lighthouses. The one above is the Bodie Lighthouse.
These four pictures were taken at the lighthouse on Hattaras Island. In spite of Nathan's trick photography, this lighthouse is the tallest one along the East coast. This one is open to climb in the summertime. We'll have to visit it again someday.
To get to the last lighthouse on Ocracoke, we had to put our car on a ferry. A man on the ship showed the kids that if you throw food (in this case, pumpkin seeds) up into the air, the seagulls would come right down next to you and catch the seeds. It was rather wild . . .we'd never seen birds in flight hovering in the gusty wind right next to us.
Ocracoke was the smallest and oldest lighthouse that we visited.
Seeing these two with their arms around each other makes the whole trip worth it (trust me -- this never happens.)

I'm jealous of all your coast pictures. They all look so East Coast and are of places I've only heard of. They look like beautiful places to visit.
