NORWAY

We just got back from an amazing week in Norway. Weather problems in Newark, NJ almost messed up our plans. We had to take a scenic route and fly through Paris to find a way to Oslo. (It was our anniversary -- I told Paul that I didn't know he was taking me to Paris for our 14th anniversary.) Anyway, Continental airlines moved our return date forward one day to make up for the time lossed. So, the kids ended up missing the first day of school -- our family does not have a good attendance reputation at our elementary school. But what do you think is more educational -- Boston, London, Hawaii (well maybe not Hawaii -- we did visit Pearl Harbor, though,) Norway . . . . or a few days in a classroom? Enjoy the pictures!

We rode the highest train in Europe to Western Norway to see the famous fjords. (a fjord is a deep valley that was created from glaciers back in the ice-age. They run like fingers along the coastal regions of Norway.) After a 5 hour train ride, we rode another special train that rode down the side of the mountain to the base of the Sognefjord. The picture of Taegan is from the first train, and the second picture is from the other train. Paul invited his sister Mavanee, who is doing an interniship at the Hague in the Netherlands, to join us on our trip.

These are some of the views we saw on the train from Oslo to Myrdal. Snow in August!

The 2nd train went right by this waterfall.

After 2 train rides, we got on a ferry for a 2 hour ride through the fjord. Brittlyn counted more than 30 waterfalls. Here are a few pictures from our boat ride:

After our boat ride, we took a bus up a winding road to our hotel, the Stalheim. We spent the next day hiking around. The red farm looking building is the hotel. Amazing views!

See the winding road and waterfall in the background?
